How to manage security across multiple commercial sites: unified VMS, cross-site access control, and centralized monitoring. C-7 licensed integrator.
A unified platform — typically Genetec, Avigilon Alta, Honeywell Pro-Watch, or Milestone XProtect — federates per-site controllers and VMS servers behind a single management plane. Credentials, schedules, and policies are authored once and pushed to every site; events, video clips, and alarms aggregate to a central console. Modern deployments use cloud-managed architecture with edge survivability (controllers cache credentials offline, cameras record to edge SD), so a WAN outage at one site does not interrupt local operation.
Integration with the HR system. We bind the access-control platform to Okta, Azure AD, or Workday via SAML or SCIM, so new-hire provisioning issues a credential automatically and termination revokes it inside 15 minutes everywhere. Without HRIS binding, multi-site portfolios accumulate orphaned credentials — the single most common audit finding in commercial real estate and retail chains.
On a properly designed multi-site system, the local controller continues to make access decisions from its cached credential database (50,000+ cards on Genetec, Avigilon, Honeywell). Cameras continue edge recording to onboard microSD. Events queue locally and replay to the central server on WAN restoration. The site does not "go dark" — only the real-time central visibility is briefly interrupted.
Cloud is the default for most commercial multi-site portfolios — retail chains, distribution networks, multi-tenant CRE — because it eliminates per-site server cost and accelerates credential propagation. On-prem federated stays preferred for regulated verticals: healthcare (HIPAA data residency), pharma (DEA retention requirements), defense (UL 2050 / FedRAMP). Hybrid — cloud control with on-prem edge survivability — is SafetyCentric's default recommendation for 5+ site portfolios.
For SoCal multi-site portfolios, our own C-7 field team handles every site. For national rollouts, we run the design, central-station, and management plane from La Mirada and subcontract install to certified C-7 / state-equivalent integrators per region, with SafetyCentric retaining commissioning and audit responsibility. One throat to choke, vetted local hands.
